Host NBCshows:

Tonight, we have a special guest here in our New York offices: JOE BARBARA of NBC's "Another World."

We'll be taking questions from both the MSN and NBC's site on the World Wide Web ().

Joe is here to chat with you. So ask him anything that's on your mind! We encourage having F U N ! ! !

Here's some background information on Joe Barbara:

Joseph Barbara was born on Dec. 5, 1966, in New Smyrna Beach, FL. He joined the "Another World" cast in Feb. 1995 as Bay City cop and restaurant owner Joe Carlino, his first major daytime role.

Barbara attended high school in Daytona Beach, FL, and later graduated from Syracuse University (NY) with a Bachelor of Science degree in Television and Film Production.

As a child, Barbara was the constant subject of his parent's home movies. He recognized his love for acting in the third grade when he participated in a school play. In high school, he portrayed Jim in "The Glass Menagerie" with The Lopez Performing Arts Theater in Daytona Beach, FL.

Host NBCshows:

While attending college, he was seen in "Chicago" at the Syracuse University Musical Stage as well as a number of student films. Since then he has been seen in many regional theater productions and appeared off-Broadway as Dominick Fabrizzi in "Tony and Tina's Wedding," a role which he played for two years.

Barbara's television credits include a featured appearance in "The Cosby Mysteries."

Barbara is single and lives in midtown Manhattan. He loves oldies, especially the music of Elvis and Frank Sinatra. When the actor is not taping the serial, or at the gym, the 6'3", brown-haired, brown-eyed actor plays the guitar and writes country music.

Our question collection has begun so start sending 'em in!

Joseph_Barbara:

Hey everybody!

Host NBCshows:

HSMS:

Hi Joe, how are ya'? Do you ever see any similarities between you and your character?

Joseph_Barbara:

Absolutely. I think every good actor brings certain elements of his own personality to any roll that he plays.

Joseph_Barbara:

For one thing, we look incredibly alike.

Host NBCshows:

Hi Joe. Do you answer your fan mail? -Kim

Joseph_Barbara:

Ha ha. Yes, Kim I do and I answer it all personally.

However, I need to apologize for being somewhat delinquent in my responses since Christmas.

There's been a lot of exciting thing happening lately--in the last few months. And although I've received and read all the mail, I'm still working on getting the responses out...sorry.

Host NBCshows:

nicolina:

Joe, just so you know, I think you are the sexiest actor on TV. Are you planning on staying on AW, I hope?

Joseph_Barbara:

Hmmmmm. Thank you very much, Nic.

Joseph_Barbara:

Yes, I am planning on being around Bay City for a long while.

Host NBCshows:

janmarcoux:

Joe - when will you be singing Elvis' songs again. You are wonderful. Jan

Joseph_Barbara:

I just sang one last week for crying out loud!

Joseph_Barbara:

Actually, I'll probably be singing one tonight. Right before I go to sleep.

Host NBCshows:

"Joe Carlino" was recently married on-screen. Any plans in the future for Joe Barbara to get married?

Joseph_Barbara:

Why wasn't there a name, picture, and short bio attached to that question? :-)

Actually, I'd love to get married but unfortunately have not prospects at this time.

Host NBCshows:

Where do you see Joe & Paulina's relationship going? Will they be happily ever after? I wonder how this baby is going to change your lives and what if turns out down the road that it really is Jake's?

Joseph_Barbara:

Wow. Lots of questions.

I think Joe and Paulina's relationship will be tested by the pressures of owning a restaurant, being a cop, and starting a family.

Joseph_Barbara:

Having a baby, starting a family, is something that Joe Carlino has wanted all his life. But I think the reality will be more than he bargained for.

Joseph_Barbara:

It would also be incredibly interesting if it did turn out to be Jake's, (although it might not be as cute.)

But I don't think that's in the plans at all.

Host NBCshows:

annaliese:

If you could plan the direction for your character, what would it be?

Joseph_Barbara:

I would like to see Joe be tested. I'd like to see his morals tested.

Host NBCshows:

Lorin25:

Joe, do you miss working with Tony Montero? We sure miss seeing Eddie...he'd be great with Sofia! :)

Joseph_Barbara:

I loved the relationship that was written for Joe and his father.

And I think--yeah, I do miss Joe having a father around. And I think not having him around is the main cause for Joe's acting the way he's been acting lately.

Host NBCshows:

Lyn: Wed, Mar 20, 9:28PM EDT (-0400 GMT)

Hi Joe! I've really enjoyed your work on AW. Will you be taking time off from the show to star in "Grease"?

Joseph_Barbara:

Funny you should mention that...

First of all, no, I will not be taking any time off from AW.

Joseph_Barbara:

But now that you bring it up, I guess I might as well make it official.

I start rehearsals next week.

And on April 16 I will be making my Broadway debut as Danny Zuko in the Tommy Tune production of "Grease."

Joseph_Barbara:

Both "Grease" and AW have been very accomodating, and have adjusted their schedules so I'll be able to do both simultaneously. So please if you're in New York, come check out the show!

Joe, there has been a lot of talk about AW's renewal for another year! Have you heard anything, and what can we do to help?

-Karen

Joseph_Barbara:

You can keep watching and send your letters of support--and phone calls! to NBC, and I'm sure we'll be on for many more years.

Host NBCshows:

nicolina:

Joe, I am Italian and Portuguese. You sort of look like a mix of both. What nationality are you? -Nikki

Joseph_Barbara:

My dad is all Italian. My mom is Irish and German. But my mom has no linving relatives, so all the influence comes from my father's side.

Host NBCshows:

bridget: Wed, Mar 20, 9:36PM EDT (-0400 GMT)

Joe, what do you think of the new beginning to AW? Did they consult the actors over the decision to change the appearance of AW?

Joseph_Barbara:

I think the new opening is hot, hip, contemporary. In a word, awesome.

They basically said they wanted to update the opening, and everyone was in favor.

Host NBCshows:

Don, Ohio: Wed, Mar 20, 9:37PM EDT (-0400 GMT)

HI Joe, I understand you write country music, have any of your songs been published/recorded, or do you write as a hobby only?

Joseph_Barbara:

Actually, I did publsh record and release a Christmas song. It was on AW (for about a second and a half.)

Host NBCshows:

Last Nov. you were briefly online during the ribbon-cutting of the new sets. At that time, you had said you just bought a computer. Do you like it and do you cruise around the internet? Or do you just play games?

Joseph_Barbara:

I do like it. But I haven't even turned it on in about two months.

But I want to learn how to "surf" the Net.

Host NBCshows:

Kroert98:

Hello Joe. What qualities do you look for in a woman? Debbie

Joseph_Barbara:

I don't know. Why do you ask me tough questions like this?

Joseph_Barbara:

Somebody who makes me feel comforatable.

Joseph_Barbara:

(comfortable)

And who can run the hundred meters in nine seconds flat.

Host NBCshows:

We're now about to let a lucky "Another World" fan go one-on-one with Joe for a few questions! One of you will be made a PARTICIPANT in the ON STAGE chat room. The gloves are coming off :-) If this happens to be you, please ask your questions directly in the ON STAGE Room and not the Open Mic Room. Remember that Joe is our guest and should be treated accordingly.

Lorin25 has been made a participant.

Host NBCshows:

Lorin25:

Lorin25:

Joseph_Barbara:

I still need to figure out how to send E-mail. And as soon as I do, you'll be my first "sendee"

Lorin25:

Ahhh...thanks, Joe!!

Joseph_Barbara:

I'm actually going to be there between 12 and 1. Then I have to go do my first Saturday matinee of Grease.

Lorin25:

Me and my sister will be going to see Grease while in NY for the luncheon. Looking forward to seeing your performance.

Lorin25:

Lorin25:

Joseph_Barbara:

Lorin25:

I'm not sure....is there one on Thurs the 18th?

Joseph_Barbara:

Absolutely. At 8 p.m.

Lorin25:

Great...we'll be there!

Joseph_Barbara:

Just in case anyone doesn't know the AW fan club luncheon is Saturday April 20th at the New York Hilton.

Lorin25:

Yes, contact Mindi Schulman of the Another World Fan club for tickets. ;)

Host NBCshows:

Ok, Lorin, get your last questions in...and we'll turn someone else into a Participant to go one-on-one with Joe!

Joseph_Barbara:

Thanks for the plug Lor!

Lorin25:

Um, I'm speechless for a change. Thanks for chatting Joe....see you in a month!

Lorin25:

Any time, Joe!! :)

Host NBCshows:

Thank you Lorin25 for "virtually" getting personal with Joe Barbara!

Lorin25:

Thank YOU! ;)

Joseph_Barbara:

Thanks Lor!

Talk to you after the show!

Lorin25:

Okay!!

Lorin25 has been made a spectator.

Host NBCshows:

JensenFan you're one-on-one with Joe Barbara! Post your comments and ask questions On Stage now.

JensenFan:

Wow, why me? Hi Joe!!

Joseph_Barbara:

Hey JF!

JensenFan:

The name is Marie, you sent me a Christmas card!

Joseph_Barbara:

Hey Marie!

Joseph_Barbara:

That's right!

JensenFan:

We almost met in Hershey Park.

Joseph_Barbara:

How was your holiday season Marie?

JensenFan:

I sent you a package through Jensen.

JensenFan:

It was great, you made it great!

Joseph_Barbara:

Oh, that's sweet.

JensenFan:

How will Judi's leave be written in?

Joseph_Barbara:

At this point I don't know.

JensenFan:

Do you know boy or girl, on the show yet?

Joseph_Barbara:

I know what happens up to that point but I haven't gotten that script that.

JensenFan:

Is she leaving soon?

Joseph_Barbara:

Yes, I do know if it's a boy or a girl.

JensenFan:

LOL, very cute!!!

Joseph_Barbara:

Do you want to know?

JensenFan:

Yes!

Joseph_Barbara:

I also know the name.

Do you want to know that too?

JensenFan:

The show baby?

Yes!

Joseph_Barbara:

Yes!

JensenFan:

But you won't tell will you?

Joseph_Barbara:

I'll tell you the initials are DMC.

And you know what the C is for.

JensenFan:

Well that helps!! LOL

Host NBCshows:

(as in Run-DMC?)

Joseph_Barbara:

Oh man! I didn't even think of that!

JensenFan:

Has Jensen brought the new baby to the studio yet?

Joseph_Barbara:

Please don't make that reference ever again. That would be a completely different story line!

JensenFan:

LOL

Host NBCshows:

Ok, JensenFan, get your last question in.

JensenFan:

As you can tell, I'm a Jensen fan.

Joseph_Barbara:

No, she hasn't. But he's very healthy, and his name is Angus O'Hagen O'Brien. ..A nice Italian kid.

JensenFan:

Oh, ok, how long is Grease running, I won't get there in April.

JensenFan:

Yeah right! LOL

Joseph_Barbara:

I'll be there through September 15.

JensenFan:

OK, I hope to make it there! You're the best!

Host NBCshows:

Thank you JensenFan for "virtually" getting personal with Joe Barbara!

JensenFan:

Thank you!!

Joseph_Barbara:

You're pretty cool yourself.

Joseph_Barbara:

Thank you.

JensenFan has been made a spectator.

Joe, Do you see a long and happy future for Pauline and your character, or do you see a lot of hassels from Tom Eplins character, Jake?

Joseph_Barbara:

I think a long happy future is boring on a Soap Opera.

Joseph_Barbara:

But I honestly see Joe and Jakes relationship kind of taking a different direction. Kind of growing. I think somewhere down the road it would be really interesting for them to perhaps start dating.

Host NBCshows:

JennyL: You've been on the show for just over a year now. What has been your fondest memory? What would you like to remember the least? ie. most embarrassing moment...

Joseph_Barbara:

Wow. Hmmm.

Joseph_Barbara:

(Thinking)

Joseph_Barbara:

My fondest memory probably was putting up pictures of my real family in Carlino's.

The most embarrassing moment was when I got a jacket string caught in the door of Joe's house, and it wrapped around the delivery guy, and sent him sprawling into the set which came thundering down along with about twelve bottles of olive oil.

Host NBCshows:

(a comment from one of your fans) Freundlich:

Joe, you have a great sense of humor!

Joseph_Barbara:

Thanks. You must too.

Joseph_Barbara:

Sometimes I think out loud but this crack NBC typist...

spits the words out too fast.

Joseph_Barbara:

And I sound like an idiot!

Joseph_Barbara:

(typist says she's getting too much credit!)

Host NBCshows:

Ok, we're going to turn one more fan into a Participant with Joe!

Freundlich has been made a participant.

Freundlich:

Hello Joe

Host NBCshows:

Freundlich...ask your questions now!!!

Joseph_Barbara:

Hello Freundlich!

Freundlich:

Jenn here Joe...Hello.

Joseph_Barbara:

Hey Jen, what's cooking?

Freundlich:

So, do you have any movie plans in the near future?

Joseph_Barbara:

Right now I think daytime TV and Broadway are enough projects for one guy.

Freundlich:

So true, but a nice thought anyway.

Joseph_Barbara:

But, I'd love to do movies in the future.

Freundlich:

And you really do have a great sense of humor...

Joseph_Barbara:

You're right it's a great thought.

Freundlich:

even if your typist is not supposed to put them all down.

Joseph_Barbara:

Thanks Freundlich. How many times are you going to tell me that?

Freundlich:

Sorry...LOL

Joseph_Barbara:

Just kidding!

Host NBCshows:

Ok, Jenn...get your last questions in, and we'll wrap up tonight's chat.

Freundlich:

I really enjoy watching you on AW...but is your temper quite as bad in real life?

Freundlich:

have to think on that i see...

Joseph_Barbara:

It takes a lot to get me to that point...Much more than Joe Carlino. But when it happens it's sometimes a little worse than you've seen on TV.

Freundlich:

OUCH!!! Well, i bet you are a great guy nonetheless.

Joseph_Barbara:

This is true.

Host NBCshows:

Thank you Freundlich (Jenn) for "virtually" getting personal with Joe Barbara!

Freundlich has been made a spectator.

Host NBCshows:

bridget: Wed, Mar 20, 10:09PM EDT (-0400 GMT)

Did you ever want to be a cop when you were little?

(last question for tonight)

Joseph_Barbara:

I actually wanted to be a paramedic. I was a huge Emergency fan. I wanted to be just like Johnny Guage and Roy Desoto.

Host NBCshows:

THANK YOU for a great chat everyone. :-)

Special thanks to Joe Barbara for taking the time off his busy schedule to hang with us.

Joseph_Barbara:

This has been a lot of fun! I'm actually much more comfortable this time around. I'd love to do it again! Thanks everyone for logging on, and I'll see you on the show, at the luncheon, or on Broadway!

Joseph_Barbara:

Goodnight and God bless!
