TRACK 1
December 2, 1968
- Various cast members. At the conclusion of Ada and Ernie's wedding
reception, Rachel clearly does not share her mother's assessment of their
husbands.
- The guests go outside to throw rice at the newlyweds as Rachel
defiantly refuses to yield to pressure from Russ to participate. Note the
fabulous two-part Clarke Morgan Fade-Out chord.
- Remaining guests comment on the wedding following the newlyweds'
departure.
- Steve visits Bill in the hospital.
- Lahoma imparts her doubts to Alice about her insecurities concerning
Sam's love for her.
- Alice waxes philosophical while talking with Dru.
December 3, 1968
- Sam agrees with Mrs. Gilhooly's assertion about Lahoma as a wife,
but clearly with reservations.
- Magnificent FADE OUT TO LOGO.
- When Lahoma learns Lee is expected, she dashes out of John's office,
leaving Peggy perplexed.
- Mary is chagrined when Liz catches her in a fib about Steve and Alice.
- Mrs. Gilhooly and Lahoma.
- Lee, Sam, and Peggy. Clarke plays a horror-stricken chord to capture
Peggy's reaction as Sam arrives unexpectedly back at the office while Lee
is in with John.
- Lee leaves John's office after the awkward encounter with Sam.
- Scene particulars unknown.
TRACK 2
November 6, 1968
- Bill and Missy in Bill's hospital room where Bill seems to be on
the road to recovery.
- In John's office, Lee tells Peggy why she is leaving town for a while.
- Bill and Missy share a very tender moment in his hospital room, then
Missy encounters Lenore who asks about Bill.
- Nurse Conklin makes a difficult request of Lenore.
- At Campaign HQ, Fred tries to dissuade Walter from rushing off to the
hospital to confront Lenore about why she returned there after he said
he needed her at HQ.
- To the extremely ominous accompaniment by Clarke Morgan, Lenore slowly
enters Bill's hospital room to sit with him as she was asked to do.
- Peggy/John.
- Walter, Alice, Nurse Conklin.
- Walter arrives at the hospital, barely able to conceal his agitated
state, anxiously asking Alice where his wife is.
November 29, 1968
- Russ emphatically tells Rachel that she WILL attend her mother's
wedding.
- Mary and her family having breakfast.
- Russ tells Jim that Rachel has just told him that she never wants to
have a baby, using how ill she became after having her miscarriage as an excuse.
- Mrs. Gilhooly describes how Ada looked in her wedding dress.
- Ada is relieved and happy that Rachel came to her wedding after all.
- Liz and Fred arrive on Mary's porch to attend the reception and realize
by looking in the window that they are late. The rest of the scene is a
celebratory hubbub as an eloquent toast by Jim (the suave Sheppard
Strudwick) is made to the bride and groom.
TRACK 3
October 1, 1968
- A few days prior, Walter and Bill had a terrible quarrel in John's office, nearly coming to
blows. Walter made reference to Bill's meddlesome mother, Liz, and her attempts to push
Lenore and Bill into marriage. A defensive Bill pointed out that Lenore seemed pretty eager for
it herself. This comment sparked Walter's intense jealousy and he lunged at Bill, forcing John to
come between them. In this scene, Missy is asking Bill to go see Walter and apologize.
- Mary suggests staying home and showing a bored Rachel how to operate the washing machine,
a suggestion that quickly evaporated Rachel's tedium.
- Liz confesses to Mary that she was the person who revealed to Missy the truth about her
parentage.
- Liz confesses her role in Missy's murder conviction.
- Bill becomes enraged when Walter tells him that Liz had been to see Lenore to enlist her aid in
obtaining his forgiveness.
- The argument where Liz places all blame on Bill, and his ensuing car accident, which Mary and
Liz witness.
October 4, 1968
- Replay of accident as Mary phones for ambulance.
- Pat is relieved to find out that Missy is not upset with her when she learned it was her
conversation with Bill that Liz overheard that contained the damaging evidence that led to her
murder conviction.
- The aftermath of Bill's accident.
- Ada/Ernie.
- Walter/Lenore.
- Missy, Pat, and Ricky leave the apartment as the phone rings with the news of Bill's accident.
October 8, 1968
- Rachel admonishes Lahoma about not doing enough to improve her lot in life.
- Alice expresses her doubt that anyone will ever completely accept Lee's decision not to marry
Sam.
- Lahoma questions Rachel's motives for marrying Russ.
October 11, 1968
- Rachel is less than enthusiastic about spending a quiet evening at home with Russ.
- Ada/Dru.
- Arriving at the hospital, Mary shares news of Bill's accident with Alice.
- Pat/Missy.
- Russ/Rachel.
- Pat breaks the news of the accident to Missy amidst Clarke Morgan's riveting organ music.
TRACK 4
July 30, 1968
- Lee pounding loudly on Lahoma's apartment door with the news that Sam has disappeared as a
result of her breaking off the engagement.
Note: The following first few scenes were recorded with low battery power so they sound distorted.
- Alice/Lenore.
- A heartbroken Sam sadly sits in disbelief as sad chords of organ music swell in the background.
- John/Peggy.
- Organ music.
- Sam/Lahoma/John.
- Pat/John.
- Liz/Lee.
- Ernie makes a distraught Ada a cup of tea.
- Alice tells Mary and Dru of Lee and Sam's breakup.
- Liz/Missy.
- Alice/Dru/Mary.
- The blaring car horn is the result of Sam, who has gone to Ernie's garage to seek sanctuary,
allowing his head to fall against the horn of the car he is sitting in: A rather loud expression of
his outrage and despair.
- Missy/Bill/Liz.
- Sam milling about in the garage having difficulty accepting Lee's explanation that what she
thought was love for him was merely gratitude.
- Lahoma/John.
- Ada/Sam.
- John asks Lahoma if she knows the true reason Lee broke off her engagement to Sam. Lahoma
abruptly rushes off.
- Steve/Walter.
- John says goodnight to Lee, obviously unhappy with Lee over breaking the engagement without
a plausible explanation. As the organ music blares, Lee, after closing the door behind her
father, slowly sinks to the floor in deep despair.
- Liz/Bill/Missy.
- Pat/Lee/John... Dru.
- Liz/Bill/Missy.
- Ada/Ernie.
- Alice/John.
- Alice/Russ.
- John/Dru.
- Ada tells Alice that if she ever runs into Lee, there is no telling what she might say or do to her.
- Dru tells John that he is disappointed he is not standing by Lee in her decision not to marry
Sam.
- Ada looks down at her sleeping daughter in her hospital bed.
- John gives Lee his support in her decision about Sam.
- Mary disagrees with Liz's assertion that John and Pat try to run Lee's life. She asks Mary that if
they do not, then: "What were they doing when they pushed her into the arms of that ex-convict?"
- Lee/Lenore.
