RACHEL CORY HUTCHINS

FAMILY
Parents
Rachel's mother is Ada Hobson. Ada raised Rachel as a single parent, working long hours as a beautician at "Pierre's" to financially support herself and her daughter. Ada had a strong work ethic and a fierce loyalty to her friends and family, especially Rachel. She was a truth sayer, whether other people wanted to hear her assessments of their situations or not. As a young woman, Rachel would act in destructive ways and hurt people in an effort to accomplish her goals in life, much to Ada's chagrin. However, Rachel was loathe to admit that, no matter the mistakes she made, Ada would stand by her without fail. A few years after becoming a widow for the third time (due to the death of her fourth husband, Charley Hobson), Rachel convinced a reluctant Ada to sell her house, move into the Cory Mansion with her, and lead a more relaxing life after working hard for many years. In 1992, Ada was faced with her own mortality as her health began to deteriorate. In May 1993, Ada died while visiting her younger daughter, Nancy in Arizona. She had been a mainstay in Bay City since February 1967 and her death came as a shock to her many friends and extensive family, Rachel especially. Ada had been Rachel's best friend and confidant, always sticking by Rachel through her many schemes, marriages and divorces, problems with her children, and personal crises. There has been a gap in Rachel's life ever since Ada died.

Rachel's father is Gerald Davis. He had abandoned Ada to raise Rachel as a single parent and did not make contact with them for years. In 1970, Rachel traced Gerald's whereabouts to Somerset and introduced herself to him. Their initial meetings were pleasant, but Rachel realized that too much time had passed for them to forge a relationship. In 1971, Gerald partnered with Steve Frame to finance Ted Clark's purchase of the Fireside Inn and attended Ted and Rachel's wedding.

In 1972, Gerald was forced to sell his restaurant in Somerset called The Riverboat and came to Bay City in hopes that Rachel's connection to Steve would benefit him financially, though he claimed that he wished to forge a relationship with his daughter. Out of gratitude for helping Ted financially and desperate for Gerald to have a more permanent presence in her life, Rachel convinced Ted to hire Gerald to manage the Fireside Inn. When Ted was jailed for stealing drugs from Russ Matthews' clinic to pay off a loan shark, Gerald convinced Rachel that Ted was a loser who was incapable of supporting her and Jamie and encouraged Rachel to fight for Steve. Gerald secretly arranged for Alice to catch Steve and Rachel having an "intimate" conversation concerning Jamie, which caused Alice to leave Steve without warning. Rachel was heartbroken when Gerald accepted a job in San Francisco after the Fireside Inn had been sold. Prior to leaving town, Gerald revealed his machinations and pushed Rachel to pursue Steve since Alice had fled town. In 1973, Gerald attended Steve and Rachel's wedding. Later, Gerald boasted to Steve that he was responsible for him marrying Rachel because he had orchestrated Alice's abrupt departure from Bay City. In 1974, Gerald would betray Rachel one final time by accepting a bribe from Steve to damage Rachel's case during her divorce hearing. Gerald was sent to prison, and that was the last heard from him.

Freeze FrameChildren
Rachel has five children.

Jamie Frame. Jamie and Rachel have had their ups and downs, but were close when Jamie left town in 1993.

Amanda Cory. Amanda is close with her mother, but every once in a while they find themselves at odds over an issue. In 1994 they had a major falling out. Amanda felt betrayed because her mother had started a relationship with Carl Hutchins. Rachel was hurt because she felt Amanda had betrayed her father's memory by believing the lies about him spread by Ian Rain.

In 1997, Amanda turned against Rachel's husband, Carl. Resentful of his presence in her father's house, she lashed out at him at every opportunity despite Rachel's entreaties for peace and understanding. Amanda masqueraded as Carl's secret lover, Hadley Prescott, and despite the pain this caused Rachel, Amanda took a savage glee in her role. Eventually remorse overcame her and she confessed all to Rachel.

Mother and daughter were on strained terms for the next few months. To make it up to her mother, Amanda investigated Scott Guthrie's role in Carl's death. She almost lost her life in the process, but it healed the rift between her and Rachel.

Freeze FrameMatthew Cory. Matt and Rachel enjoyed a close relationship for many years. Their first serious falling-out occurred in 1988, when Matthew discovered the circumstances of his birth. Matthew was very disillusioned with his mother, but eventually came around.

Matthew's hatred for Carl Hutchins, born out of the blue in 1996, took a terrible toll on his relationship with his mother. When she discovered he had been plotting with Carl's enemy Alexander Nikos, their closeness ended and they were estranged for several months. Matt botched his life by impregnating Lila Roberts and making her a fixture in the Cory mansion, but it also made Rachel rally to his side.

Elizabeth and Cory Hutchins. Rachel's twins were born in 1997.

Siblings
Rachel has a half-sister on her mother's side, Nancy McGowan. Nancy resided in Bay City from 1974 to 1987. She returned twice: in 1989, for Mac Cory's funeral, and in 1993, for their mother Ada's funeral. Nancy is much younger than Rachel (about 30), but the two are close. Nancy is usually mentioned around Christmastime.
