SYNOPSES: 1986

Daily Synopses: January - June / July - December

JULY 1, 1986 (EP. #5598)
Cecile took her frustrations out on Gloria and Marcia because their search for Cass had been fruitless. Kathleen snapped at Rachel, Felicia, and M.J. for believing that she was depressed over Cass. Michael and Donna argued over whether or not a relationship could work between the two of them. Mr. Waller informed Kathleen and M.J. that Cass's landlord had threatened to throw out his personal effects, but Kathleen maintained that Cass's possessions and fate were none of her concern. Cecile vowed to get pregnant by Cass and decided to head to Bay City. Donna was appalled when Michael arranged to have his car towed and rented a pickup truck. M.J. warned a group of teenagers to quit being disruptive to other customers while they ate at Mary's Place. Kathleen mused to Felicia that Cass's disappearance seemed similar to her mother's mysterious death. Brittany told Rachel and Felicia that Catlin was out of town and, while Peter frightens her on occasion, he had not done anything that would make Brittany a battered wife. Vince forced the group of unruly teenagers to leave after they set off fireworks in Mary's Place. Cecile vowed to discredit Cass in Kathleen's eyes in Bay City. Felicia, Kathleen, and M.J., packed Cass's belongings. Donna grew worried when Michael ordered food and drinks on another man's tab as they tried to trace Vicky's whereabouts. Cecile agreed that Cjaza and LaRusso should accompany her to Bay City since Gloria and Marcia would be easily recognized by the police. Michael lost a high-stakes pool game against a man named Bill Bell. Kathleen wept over Cass betraying her trust. Rachel urged Brittany to be honest with Peter about her love for Catlin, but Brittany swore that she would not risk being separated from the baby. Kathleen plotted her next novel. M.J. received a call from Adam that reported Cecile's movements. Michael agreed to use Donna as "collateral" in another pool game against Bill.

Notes: First appearance of James McDonald as Blade. The character's birth name was Hank Rafferty.

JULY 2, 1986 (EP. #5599)
While enjoying caviar and champagne on her plane, Cecile made cryptic remarks about putting women like Kathleen to shame while she evaded Cjaza and LaRusso's inquiry into her plans in Bay City. Kathleen acted indifferent upon learning from M.J. that Cecile had chartered a plane and was on her way to Bay City. Adam arrived at Mary's Place to take M.J. to the airport. Nancy told Maisie that she did well on her chemistry exam and was anxious to tell Greg about it. Donna was unenthusiastic when Michael won a pool game against Bill. Adam questioned M.J.'s friendship with Cass, but insisted that he wished to befriend M.J. Cecile was cordial but not cooperative when Adam and M.J. tried to interrogate her on the plane. Lt. Samuels was displeased to learn that M.J. had driven Adam to the airport and maintained that Cecile should not be questioned by the authorities. Cecile dodged Adam's questions on whether Cass had been a passenger on her plane. Michael forced Bill to bet on his wallet, which had been stolen at the bar. A frustrated M.J. failed to recognize Czaja and LaRusso in photographs Adam had shown to her. Michael and Donna survived a bar fight that broke out when Bill refused to accept that Michael had won back his wallet in a pool game. Cecile asked Ravi, the U.S. ambassador for Tanquir, to release a press statement as they discussed the fate of Tanquir being in Cecile's hands and the murder of Gunter Hermann. Jake and Blade got into fights with Aces, who injured Nancy while harassing her. Cecile ordered LaRusso to look for Kathleen. Nancy expressed gratitude to Jake for rescuing her while Vince called the police. M.J. was intrigued by Adam's interest in Michael, who had a scheduled appointment with Adam. Blade was upset when Aces vowed revenge against Jake. Cecile worried about Cass while Kathleen denied that she cared about him. Michael and Donna danced as a jukebox played, "Stand by Your Man."

JULY 3 and 4, 1986: Pre-empted for NBC's coverage of the Wimbledon Tennis Semifinals.

JULY 7, 1986 (EP. #5600)
Nancy admitted to Jake and Greg that she was scared of guys like Blade and Aces. Zane discovered Cass hiding in Zane's boathouse. Michael boasted to Brittany about the way Donna had handled herself during the bar fight. Brittany insisted to Michael and Donna that Catlin was working hard to find Vicky and that Peter had gone on a business trip. Peter's arrival to the Love estate caused a nervous Brittany to drop a tea cup and saucer that she had placed in her lap. Michael and Brittany jumped to Catlin's defense when Peter insinuated that Catlin was incapable of finding Vicky. Peter suggested that Brittany should remain anxious. Adam theorized to M.J. that there may have been a reasonable explanation for catching Cass on the beach with Cecile. Adam decided against closing the case on Cass's kidnapping and talked to M.J. about Cecile ostensibly being in the United States for medical treatment. Peter told Brittany about his past with Cecile, but refused to answer Brittany's questions on his whereabouts before he left town with Mac. Michael intervened when an angry Peter manhandled Brittany. Greg told Nancy about Samantha's escapades in Europe and their parents' extramarital affairs. Cass insisted to Zane and Felicia that he must explain to Kathleen that Cecile had kidnapped him, but Felicia warned Cass that he should not lie to Kathleen. Nancy insisted to Jake that she shared Greg's desire to have nothing more than a summer fling. After Brittany refused to confide her marital troubles to Michael, Donna explained that Peter had been eavesdropping on their conversation. Adam asked M.J., about her singing while she searched for the Gomez file. Donna told Michael that Brittany secretly wished to skip town with Catlin, that Peter had paternity tests performed on the baby, and that Peter spies on Brittany frequently. Brittany screamed upon realizing that the baby was gone. M.J. attacked Cass for hurting Kathleen.

JULY 8, 1986 (EP. #5601)
Catlin arrived at the Love estate to find Brittany in a panic over the apparent kidnapping of her baby in front of Michael and Donna. Cass lambasted Adam and M.J. for failing to rescue him. Adam brought Cass to the police precinct for questioning. Mac could not deter Rachel from visiting Cecile. In front of Catlin, Peter accused Brittany of failing to take care of the baby properly, introduced a possessive new nursemaid by the name of Miss Weston, and warned Brittany not to be caught in Catlin's arms often. M.J. apologized to Cass for accosting him and stated that Kathleen was confused about the situation with Cecile. Cass was determined to see Kathleen. Cecile made disparaging remarks about Jamie and Sandy while she and Rachel exchanged barbs at each other. Mac approved of Kathleen's idea of writing a biography about her parents. Mac assured Kathleen that Adam turned her down for a date because of Cass. Kathleen vowed to forget about Cass. Cass was displeased by Adam and M.J.'s flow chart of his case and accused Adam of pursuing Kathleen. Adam laid into Cass for hurting Kathleen and for causing M.J. to be demoted. Rachel told Cecile that she was welcome to take Cass with her and leave Bay City. Kathleen refused to believe that Cecile had kidnapped Cass despite Zane and Felicia's concerted efforts. Lt. Samuels mocked Cass's claims that Cecile had kidnapped him so that he could sire an heir to the throne in Tanquir for Cecile. Cecile assured King Amir that she was pregnant by Cass. Cecile ordered LaRusso to find a man who could keep Cass away from Kathleen. Catlin told Brittany that he had considered moving to Chicago because his presence was causing problems for her and Peter. Brittany allowed Catlin to assume that he was the father of the baby. Michael and Donna were puzzled by Catlin and Brittany's nervous behavior. M.J. convinced Cass to delay meeting with Kathleen so that he could rest.

JULY 9, 1986 (EP. #5602)
Nancy told Ada and Jake that Greg was running her ragged. Adam and Michael inspected the Love stables. Felicia tried to ease Kathleen's anger towards Cass, who called to express his love and explained that he was coming to see her. Kathleen left a note before telling Felicia that she would not allow Cass to hurt her again. Zane urged Cass to give Kathleen space. Donna was suspicious when Michael and Adam claimed that they were ensuring diplomatic security with Cecile and downplayed the duration and nature of their friendship. Adam told Michael that Cecile is connected to "The Vulture," who made business deals in Bay City with the King of Tanquir. Greg coaxed Nancy into having a picnic on the beach. Jake told Greg that Nancy had matured and become self-reliant. Greg was amused when Samantha gifted Jake with a new watch. Ada and Nancy talked about Jake dating Samantha to forget about Marley. Michael and Adam planned to flush "The Vulture" out of hiding. Samantha decided that she and Jake should join Greg and Nancy on their picnic. Cass told Zane that it would be difficult to get reliable eye witnesses to prove to Kathleen that he had been kidnapped by Cecile and her henchmen. An unknown man tailed Cass. Michael accused Donna of having a suspicious nature and promised that he would not let anyone hurt Marley. Samantha ignored Greg's concerns about her pursuing Jake and accused Greg of being incapable of making commitments. Adam obtained the addresses of the guests who had attended the party at which Mary had drowned for Kathleen. Vince ordered Cass to stay away from Kathleen. Nancy and Samantha warned each other against dating Jake and Greg. Michael bought the Love stables from Donna. Wallingford talked to Felicia about a dinner party for the Sons and Daughters of the French Revolution. Cass spotted an armed waiter standing next to Kathleen's table at the Northwoods Inn.

JULY 10, 1986 (EP. #5603)
Peter laid into Brittany for neglecting their sick child. Felicia and Wallingford were puzzled when Cass fled the Northwoods Inn. Kathleen refused to believe Felicia's claims that Cass was resolute about seeing her and that Cass had a reason for fleeing the restaurant. Czaja told Cecile that Cass had escaped. Cecile told LaRusso that Cass loved her and that the opposition against the Tanquir's monarchy would die once Cecile had become pregnant with his child. Cass anonymously reported the armed waiter at the Northwoods Inn to the police, who were unable to locate the man. Peter disputed the legitimacy of Michael's purchase of the Love stables. Brittany accused Peter of lying about the baby's health and hiring Miss Weston to make Brittany seem like an incompetent mother. Catlin told Mac that he would not permit Peter to raise his son. Mac suggested to Catlin that Brittany reveal the baby's true paternity and forfeit the money. Kathleen told Felicia and Wallingford that she would have reconciled with Cass had he professed love to her. Cass fed Prometheus to lure him away from the McKinnon house. Michael's arrival prevented Catlin from getting Brittany to reveal the baby's true paternity. Mac told Adam, Rachel, and Nancy that the aerial photograph was taken in 1950 during a boundary dispute between the Love and Cory estates. Nancy invited Adam to the picnic on the beach. LaRusso and Cjaza questioned whether Cecile had embezzled money out of Tanquir. Catlin informed Michael that Vicky was in the area. Adam tried to assuage Michael's fears that many people would be hurt once "The Vulture" resurfaces. Peter and Brittany argued about the baby becoming too dependent on her. Kathleen expressed willingness to believe Cass's claims. Peter overheard Brittany tell Rachel that she was taking the baby and leaving him. Cass neutralized LaRusso and Cjaza and took Cecile hostage to force her to corroborate his kidnapping.

JULY 11, 1986 (EP. #5604)
Brittany recalled that Peter and Catlin both insisted that they were Peter Reginald's father. Over the phone while assuming an accent, Cass advised Kathleen to come to the Northwoods Inn and ask to speak to a troublemaker named Harvey should she want Prometheus returned alive. When Catlin proclaimed that he had rights and obligations if he was the father of the baby, Brittany planned to meet Catlin at Mary's Place so that she would be free of Peter's interference. Peter told Brittany that his mother had committed suicide and had been most concerned with self-preservation during her lifetime. Brittany left Peter Reginald with Bridget after instructing her not to give the baby to Miss Weston. Samantha decided to be patient with a quiet, reserved, and slightly annoyed Jake. Kathleen refused to listen to Cass's explanations about St. Thomas. Cass's plan to force Cecile into revealing the truth backfired when Cecile, wearing a Marie Antoinette costume, complained about being left in her underwear. Kathleen got confused when Cass went to confront the armed waiter who was in Cecile's employ. Nancy opined to Greg that Samantha was an assertive person who acted out of desperation. Adam, M.J., and Jake stopped a punk named Aces from pestering Samantha. Miss Weston threatened to report the incident to Peter when Brittany and Bridget refused to cooperate with her concerning Peter Reginald's care. Brittany tried to contact Rachel while making plans to escape Peter with her baby. Kathleen became murderous when Cecile made acerbic remarks about Kathleen's aborted wedding, middle-class lifestyle, and sexual appeal. Everyone was impressed when M.J. sang "Still Crazy After All These Years" with a guitar player named Scott. Peter insulted Brittany after finding her holding the baby and some luggage. Wallingford ran to Felicia for reinforcements once Cecile was captured on the sound system throwing barbs at Kathleen.

Notes: First appearance of Hank Cheyne as Scott LaSalle.

JULY 14, 1986 (EP. #5605)
Blade was impressed by M.J.'s singing voice. Michael and Donna complimented each other's appearances as they observed the picnic on the beach. Peter scared Brittany by insulting and accosting her. Cass tried to intercede when Kathleen and Cecile got into a food fight. Adam and Greg fed Scott while Samantha had Jake obtain junk food for her. M.J. told Adam the reasons that she decided to join the police force. Michael and Donna had a candlelight dinner together. Cass insisted to Kathleen that he was trying to apprehend the armed waiter, and walked out to attend to the goon. Donna tried to extract secrets from Michael. Michael promised Donna that they would find Vicky after learning from Catlin that she had returned to Bay City. Donna accused Michael of lying about his reasons for purchasing the Love stables. Peter boasted to Brittany that she could not contest the legal documents she had signed, reveal the baby's true paternity, terminate their marriage, and that he had sole custody of the baby until its twenty-first birthday. Michael was astonished when Donna showed him the diamonds and emeralds she had purchased from the sale of the Love stables. Cass fought off LaRusso, who tried to take Cass hostage. As Aces spied on the beach party, Samantha tried to distract Jake from dwelling on his split with Marley. Peter warned Brittany that she would never see the baby again should she decided to leave him. Brittany asked Rachel to break the date that she had scheduled with Catlin. Michael tried to assure Donna that their romance was not doomed to fail. Aces ignored Blade's protests as he found Marley's picture in Jake's wallet and deduced that she had been Jake's fiance. Catlin grew alarmed as Rachel questioned the reasons that Brittany had decided against leaving Peter. Kathleen bade a hasty retreat after Cass revealed the truth behind her catching Cass and Cecile in a compromising position in St. Thomas.

Notes: It is mentioned that M.J. is younger than Kathleen during this episode. However, during the February 22, 1985 episode, Kathleen stated to Cass Winthrop that she was eleven months younger than M.J. while talking about her family. In this episode, M.J. sings "Danny's Song," by Loggins & Messina with Scott LaSalle accompanying her on guitar.

JULY 15, 1986 (EP. #5606)
Michael was stunned when Donna professed her love to him. Catlin and Rachel did not buy Peter's claims of concern for Brittany. Blade broke up a fight between Aces and Jake. Cecile seethed as Cass declared his love for Kathleen. Kathleen complained to Cass that he was an unlucky person and that they were ill-suited for each other. Cass told Kathleen that he cannot get away from Cecile because of her armed goon. Aces overheard Jake and Samantha mention that Donna owned a lake house nearby and deduced that Marley was rich. Michael told Donna that he would never profess his love unless he truly meant it. Catlin and Rachel were skeptical of Peter's assertions that he hated to see Brittany not taking care of herself. Cass vowed to contact the police in response to LaRusso's threats of shooting Kathleen since Cecile needed Cass to be alive. Michael and Adam planned to reveal Cecile's reckless spending and fretted that Sally was killed because of Tanquir's extensive connections to Bay City. Brittany fibbed to Catlin that she was not scared of Peter, and ordered him to quit contacting her. Kathleen fretted to M.J. that Cecile would not abandon her scheme for Cass. Lt. Samuels refused to take Zane, Felicia, and Cass's accusations against Cecile and LaRusso, who arrived to file a police report against Cass. Cecile informed Cjaza that she would not leave Bay City until she had recovered her "trump card." Cecile asked Peter to show her the Love stables. Rachel refused to believe that Brittany preferred life with Peter instead of being with Catlin. Michael and Ada realized that their personal lives needed to be put on hold. Donna could not answer Kathleen's questions about her mother's time working for the Love family. Peter reiterated to Brittany that she could not reveal her true reasons for marrying him to anyone. Cass sent flowers accompanied by cards containing song titles to Kathleen and swore that he would not give up on her.

JULY 16, 1986 (EP. #5607)
Peter warned Brittany against threatening him. Donna expressed indifference when Adam stated that he came to show Michael the morning edition of the newspaper because of their interest in baseball. Jake and M.J. refused to let Cass into the house to see Kathleen. Cass pressed Kathleen to believe that he had nothing to do with Cecile's money, prompting M.J. to intervene and Jake to demand that Cass leave. Peter boasted that Brittany had no legal recourse, that she had signed her son away, and vowed revenge against Brittany for turning him into a monster. Zane, Felicia, and Wallingford helped Cass brainstorm ways to prove his story to Kathleen. Kathleen got upset when M.J. agreed with Jake's theory that Cass was being honest because of the effort he was making with Kathleen. Wallingford suggested that Mac, Rachel, Cass, and Donna would be useful in proving Cecile's deception. Michael professed his love to Donna. Donna reluctantly admitted Blade and Aces, who fibbed that he was an electrician who came to inspect the fuses at the beach house. M.J. urged Kathleen to listen to Cass's claims. Brittany told the baby that she would protect him from Peter and that he was like his father, Catlin. Adam informed Michael that Tanquir was blacked out and expressed fear that Peter and Cecile had found something that he had been unable to locate in the Love stables. Michael vowed to protect Vicky from "The Vulture." Adam and M.J. had ice cream after a stressful day. Aces and Blade made arrangements so that they could freely get in and out of the beach house. Kathleen seethed when Cass left the Northwoods Inn with LaRusso instead of talking to her. Peter told an ambivalent Brittany about his riding excursion with Cecile. Brittany swore that she would fight and win against Peter. Adam learned that Cass had been seen climbing a trellis at the McKinnon house. Cass tried unsuccessfully to reason with Kathleen.

JULY 17, 1986 (EP. #5608)
Michael was evasive with Donna about his communications with Adam. Aces spied on Vicky in the beach house. Ravi informed Cecile that she had lost the crown to Tanquir. Cass thanked Jake for supporting his efforts to win back Kathleen. Rolf, the armed waiter at the Northwoods Inn, interrupted Cass's conversation with Kathleen because he intended to take Cass to Cecile. Kathleen assumed that Jake and Cass neutralizing Rolf was a stunt to impress her after discovering that Rolf was carrying a toy gun. M.J. arrested Rolf. Catlin told Michael that Vicky has an overdue credit card, then tried to extract information on Brittany from Bridget. Cecile was stunned by Rolf's contemptuous attitude towards her and tried to assure LaRusso and Cjaza that she would reward their loyalty with Swiss bank accounts. Ravi secretly gave instructions to LaRusso and Cjaza. Michael learned that Marley had checked out of a hotel in Chicago. Greg disagreed with Nancy's assertion that they were just having a summer fling. Vince assured Kathleen that she would find love again. Jake lured Vince away so that Cass could talk to Kathleen alone. Ada warned Nancy that Greg seemed to be getting serious about her. Adam told Michael that the king of Tanquir had been assassinated and hoped to smoke out "The Vulture." Vicky almost got arrested for shoplifting. Kathleen refused to believe Cass's stories. Cecile told Cass that he was no longer needed and offered to confess her machinations to Kathleen. Ada noted that Jake had remained bitter towards Vicky. Aces prevented Vicky from contacting her family. Donna wished for Peter to find love like she had found with Michael. Authorities tried to find Cecile so that they could take her into protective custody. Peter kept Catlin from talking to Brittany on the phone. Aces assumed that Vicky was Marley and approached her in a threatening manner. LaRusso and Cjaza revealed their betrayal of Cecile to Cass and Kathleen.

JULY 18, 1986 (EP. #5609)
Adam obtained a warrant so that Cecile could be taken into custody. Cecile fibbed that LaRusso and Cjaza had forced her into luring Cass away from Kathleen, who suspected that she, Cass, and Cecile were going to be killed. Catlin and Rachel fretted about Brittany's situation with Peter. Brittany refused to let Peter near the baby. Donna anticipated that Marley would call her. Vicky insisted that she was not Marley and stalled Aces as he made sexual advances towards her. Peter told Brittany that they were going to have a night out as a loving married couple. M.J. suspected that Adam was withholding information from her about Cecile. LaRusso and Cjaza threatened to torture Cass and Kathleen should Cecile refuse to give them the information that they sought. Kathleen refused when Cass begged LaRusso and Cjaza to let her escape. Jake hypothesized to M.J. that Cass and Kathleen had reunited. Brittany talked to the baby as she fantasized about Catlin. Donna complained about being unable to find Michael. Donna admitted to Brittany that she had knowledge of the legal documents because she wished for Peter to have the appearance of a faithful and devoted wife that he could control. Vicky refused to divulge the reasons that Jake and Marley's wedding had not taken place to Aces, who swore that he would remedy Jake making her unhappy, and ignored Vicky's insistence that she was not Marley. Adam agreed not to report M.J. for tracing Cass and Kathleen's license plates and learned that Cass's car had been spotted outside of the Bayview Arms in which Cecile had rented a room. Mac and Rachel grew suspicious of Peter's behavior and noted that Brittany looked miserable. Catlin confided his concerns for Brittany and the baby to Felicia. Aces boasted to Jake that he was with Marley at Donna's beach house. Adam and M.J. found Cecile's hotel room deserted. Cass regained consciousness in a place filled with wild laughter.

JULY 21, 1986 (EP. #5610)
Jake received a threatening call from Aces. Mac and Rachel talked about Peter and Brittany's odd behavior. Adam and M.J. discovered that Cass, Kathleen, and Cecile had been taken as hostages and two police officers had been tied up in the bedroom of Cecile's hotel suite. Cass, Kathleen, and Cecile found themselves in an amusement park being held at gunpoint by LaRusso and Cjaza. LaRusso and Cjaza told Cecile that she was no longer the Queen of Tanquir and was flat broke. Jake suspected that Aces was using Marley to get revenge against him. Catlin and Brittany quietly seethed as Peter mused about the baby's resemblance to him and fathers raising a child alone. Peter ordered Brittany to maintain appearances as they dined with Mac, Rachel, and Felicia. When Aces denied being at Donna's beach house with a blonde woman, Blade reminded Aces that he had been jailed for stabbing the man who had raped his sister. Jake and Michael attacked Blade as Aces advanced towards Vicky, who he believed was Marley. LaRusso and Czaja informed Cecile that they work for the new King of Tanquir, who wants the money and assets that Cecile had taken. Cass was furious when Cecile maintained that they had become lovers in St. Thomas. Peter griped to Brittany about being underestimated and recalled that Reginald had taught him not to be weak or to allow people to manipulate him. Blade helped Michael and Jake rescue Vicky from Aces. Adam and M.J. set up a stakeout at the hotel in hopes of locating Cass, Kathleen, and Cecile. Mac and Rachel noted that Peter had changed into a person who resembled Reginald. Peter taunted Brittany over Catlin being in love with her. Vicky revealed her machinations to Michael and Jake, who admitted that he would have come to the beach house had he known that it was Vicky being held captive instead of Marley. Kathleen reconciled with Cass once LaRusso and Cjaza corroborated his story.

Notes: Last appearance of Ellen Wheeler as Vicky Hudson.

JULY 22, 1986 (EP. #5611)
Brittany offered Peter Reginald's trust fund in exchange for the return of the baby, prompting Peter to ridicule Brittany for thinking that she could use the trust fund to bargain with him. While staying at the Bayview Arms, Adam pretended to tease M.J. over talking in her sleep about Adam and sex. M.J. was upset upon realizing that Adam had not informed her that the King of Tanquir had been assassinated. Cecile tried unsuccessfully to charm LaRusso into releasing her. LaRusso informed an anonymous contact that he would take care of Cass, Kathleen, and Cecile in a deserted amusement park named Fun & Frolic Land. Kathleen yelled for Cass to go to the police after he escaped through a secret door within a fun house. When Donna lectured Michael for not keeping in contact with her and blamed the family's troubles on Jake, Michael emphasized to Donna that Jake had taken part in Vicky's rescue from Aces. Michael asked Catlin to find Marley and noted that Vince dislikes him because of his associations with the Love family. LaRusso ordered Czaja to shoot Cass on sight. Cass neutralized LaRusso and took an apparent escape route out of the amusement park. Cecile scoffed at Kathleen's assumption that she would not be extradited back to Tanquir. Kathleen ribbed Cecile for failing to seduce Cass and was amused when Cecile predicted that Cass and Kathleen's romance would not last. Michael told Adam that he wanted "The Vulture" to emerge from South America. Adam and M.J. questioned Peter about Cecile and whether she had searched the Love stables yet. Michael learned from Donna that Marley was in Newport, Rhode Island and was returning to Bay City. Nancy told Jake that she and Vicky had made peace. In Paraguay, "The Vulture" angrily looked at a newspaper article about Cecile and the King of Tanquir's death. Cjaza recaptured Cass, brought him to Kathleen and Cecile, and vowed that they would be tortured.

JULY 23, 1986 (EP. #5612)
To evade Donna's questions about his friendship with Adam, Michael suggested marriage in exchange for Donna handing over the Love fortune to him. Cecile tried to downplay the value of the real estate properties she owned in the United States to LaRusso and Cjaza as Cass and Kathleen vowed to make a fresh start together. Adam flattered M.J. with compliments rather than provide a detailed account of his associations with Michael. In the Cory stables, an unknown person spied on Felicia as she expressed mixed feelings about a sculpture that Rachel was working on. Rachel fretted that she had lost her inspiration. LaRusso and Cjaza agreed to get lunch and garbage bags while Cass worked on getting Cecile to be upfront with them about her assets. Adam told Michael that they should locate Gloria, emphasized that the newspapers in Paraguay had been covering the King's death, and that "The Vulture" had leased a Lear jet. Michael hoped to get his family out Bay City. When Nancy overheard M.J. tell Vince that the authorities want people to believe that Cass and Kathleen had reconciled and left town together, M.J. asked Nancy to keep quiet about it. LaRusso and Cjaza returned just as Cass and Kathleen were writing notes in hopes of getting help outside. Vince relieved Nancy from work so that she could spend time with Greg. Cass gave LaRusso and Cjaza a fake list of Cecile's assets. Adam and Michael asked Zane to locate Gloria without telling Felicia. Cass strategically scattered notes as he assisted LaRusso and Cjaza with disposing of the garbage bags. Michael was baffled when Donna presented him with a ring with the inscription, "Love Conquers All." Per Adam's instructions, Zane offered to buy Gloria dinner at The Pig Whistle. Some children who were trading baseball cards found Cass and Kathleen's notes. LaRusso and Cjaza threatened to torture Cass when Cecile refused to reveal anything about the "trump card."

JULY 24, 1986 (EP. #5613)
Adam and M.J. arrested Gloria as she was having dinner with Zane. The children who found Cass and Kathleen's S.O.S. notes debated on whether to go to the police. Nancy studied chemistry while working at Mary's Place. Scott nearly had his expensive car towed out of the parking lot of Mary's Place. Donna felt humiliated when Michael denied proposing marriage to her. Scott apologized to Nancy for deceiving her, lamented that his father is rich but has few friends, and stated that he would be attending Bay State in the fall. Catlin insisted on accompanying Larry to investigate Gunter Hermann's apartment because of Sally's death, which Catlin suspected may have been caused by a car axle that had been broken on purpose. A public defender named Reuben Boggs legally represented Gloria, who was brought into police custody. Jake impulsively kissed Samantha to prove to Nancy that his romance with Marley was finished and that he would not reconcile with Vicky. Zane attested that Gloria was one of the "tuxedo women" who had abducted Cass. Larry and Catlin learned that Gunter's apartment had been rented under another name, had once worked for the Love family, and discovered maps of Bay City in it. In Paraguay, "The Vulture" objected to Ludwig killing Sally because she was an innocent bystander in his efforts to retrieve the "trump card." When Donna accused Michael of punishing her, Michael promised that they would settle matters soon and advised Donna not to return her trousseau. Adam assured an anxious Michael that "The Vulture" would be apprehended once he comes to the United States. Samantha talked Jake into having dinner with her. Michael asked Donna for time before they could become engaged. Catlin was suspicious when Donna denied to Larry that she had ever known Gunter Hermann. Gloria agreed to help Adam and M.J. locate Cass and Kathleen. Michael proposed marriage to Donna.

JULY 25, 1986 (EP. #5614)
Catlin told Mac and Rachel that Peter had likely been tormenting Brittany. Peter warned Brittany that she would never see the baby again should she leave the Love estate, that she must be affectionate with him, and vowed revenge should she contact Catlin. Brittany realized that Peter had placed listening devices within the Love mansion's phones. Despite Jake's claims to the contrary, Samantha felt that Marley's presence haunted them. Cass was returned to Kathleen and Cecile after being tortured by LaRusso and Cjaza. Marley returned to Bay City to settle personal matters. Donna told Marley about Vicky's ordeal with Aces and that she and Michael had become engaged. Catlin asked Rachel to get Brittany to come to the cabin. Rachel told Mac that she would be able to tell whether Brittany was scared of Peter by talking to her. Peter raved to Marley about the baby and his happiness with Brittany. While remaining mindful of Peter's listening devices, Rachel hinted to Brittany that she was headed for the Cory stables. Adam hedged on revealing to M.J. the connection between Cecile and the Love stables to M.J. Cecile resisted Cass and Kathleen's demands to be upfront with LaRusso and Cjaza, who threatened to kill Cass. Michael and Adam suspected that the "trump card" had been moved. Rachel hugged a frightened Brittany. Jake decided against getting intimate with Samantha after they had enjoyed a catered dinner. Michael and Donna were thrilled that Vicky and Marley had reconciled. Cass whispered a plot to Kathleen while kissing her before LaRusso and Cjaza separated them again. Peter interrupted Brittany telling Catlin that she needed legal assistance. Michael whisked Donna away so that Jake and Marley could talk privately. Adam received an update on "The Vulture," who planned to come to Bay City to punish Cecile for ruining his plans. Cass and Kathleen attempted an escape from LaRusso and Cjaza.

JULY 28, 1986 (EP. #5615)
Marley apologized to Jake for hurting him. LaRusso and Cjaza foiled Cass and Kathleen's escape and were furious when Cecile remained uncooperative. Under duress, Brittany told Catlin that she had obtained everything she had wanted out of life and ordered Catlin not to contact her. When Marley pointed out that her doubts stemmed from Jake refraining from making love to her, Jake expressed frustrations over Marley believing Vicky's assertions that she had been intimate with him behind Marley's back. Cecile tried to convince LaRusso and Cjaza that the "trump card" was an invention. Michael discovered that the phones on the Love estate had been bugged as he attempted to call Adam. Cass was appalled when Cecile refused to cooperate with LaRusso and Cjaza because she believed that they would not harm Kathleen. Marley confessed to Jake that she felt inferior to Vicky and assumed that she would snag Jake away from her. Marley told Jake that she had to straighten herself out before they could potentially reconcile. Peter forced Brittany to refer to the baby as Peter Reginald. Kathleen proclaimed that she and Cass would die for each other and questioned whether anyone would do the same for LaRusso. Michael ordered Peter to remove the listening devices from the phones. Catlin lamented to Larry that he had lost Sally and Evan, but proclaimed that he would not allow his son to be raised by Peter. Brittany privately swore that she and the baby would be free of Peter one day. Kathleen secretly influenced LaRusso and Cjaza by predicting that they would cease being useful to the new government of Tanquir once they had handed over the "trump card" to it. Michael held off having dinner with Donna to deal with Peter's listening devices. Timmy, one of the boys who had found Cass and Kathleen's notes, tried unsuccessfully to contact the police. Cass got upset after seeing Kathleen with a bruised face.

JULY 29, 1986 (EP. #5616)
Donna served Michael breakfast in bed. Adam told Felicia that Zane was helping the authorities save Cass, Kathleen, and Cecile by buying information from a man named Fingers Leroy. Donna told Michael that Peter had placed listening devices on the phones because he did not trust Brittany. Michael left for a meeting with Adam rather than spend time with Donna. LaRusso and Cjaza ignored Cecile's pleas for mercy. Cass was elated when Kathleen secretly informed him that LaRusso and Cjaza had applied makeup to make Kathleen appear bruised and not to tell Cecile about the ploy. Michael and Adam feared that Cecile would be killed before they could apprehend "The Vulture." Zane was miffed when Felicia arrived at the "Happy-go-lucky" diner donning a wig, though she influenced Fingers by offering him free beer and money for information. Michael and Adam listened intently as Gloria tried to think of a place that LaRusso and Cjaza would hold Cass, Kathleen, and Cecile captive. LaRusso and Cjaza stopped Timmy and his friends from helping Cass, who was warned that they would have to turn Cass, Kathleen, and Cecile over to the new government of Tanquir should Cecile remain uncooperative. In Paraguay, "The Vulture" hoped to avoid going to Bay City and ordered Ludwig to eliminate the obstacle in his way. Fingers told Zane and Felicia that a friend of his might have kidnapped people that he was holding somewhere along the Interstate. Donna groused to Bridget that Michael had become corrupted by power and money. Adam assigned police officers at the "Happy-go-lucky" and decided to ask Felicia for help via her talk show. Timmy tried to convince his friends that they should save Cass. Cass was skeptical when Cecile claimed that the "trump card" was certificates to a large number of diamonds. Cecile remonstrated Cass for guilting her into believing that Kathleen had been harmed. Cass thought of a method of escape.

JULY 30, 1986 (EP. #5617)
Felicia agreed to mention Cass and Kathleen's disappearance and that Cecile swindled a fortune from Tanquir once Zane and Adam convinced her that she would not put Cass and Kathleen's lives in danger. Greg soothed Nancy's nerves over passing an important chemistry exam. Donna tried to seduce Michael away from business matters. Brittany pretended to berate a dry cleaner over the phone while secretly arranging a meeting to talk to Rachel while Peter was present. Rachel grew dissatisfied with her new sculpture. Donna massaged Michael's back and suggested that they go swimming. Zane refused to allow Felicia to accompany him to the "Happy-go-lucky" diner. Catlin showed Larry photographs of Sally's car, which proved that an unknown person had tampered with it. Peter graciously allowed Brittany to go riding. Greg denied Jake's assertion that he had become serious about Nancy. Donna complained about Michael employing women who interrupted their romantic idylls with telephone calls. Michael promised Donna that he intended to marry her once a problem had been solved. Mitch spied on Rachel as Brittany confessed that her life with Peter was a nightmare and produced the legal documents that Peter and Donna had tricked her into signing. "The Vulture" instructed Ludwig to go to Bay City without him. An attorney advised Brittany that she would risk losing custody of her child and should connect Peter with a crime that proved he constituted a real threat to the baby. Brittany asked Rachel to keep quiet about her planned legal actions against Peter. "The Vulture" decided to fly to Bay City after learning about Felicia's proclamations on her talk show. When Donna accused Michael of playing with her affections, Michael explained that an event was about to take place that would affect their future. Adam informed Michael that "The Vulture" was heading to Bay City. Donna fumed over Michael and Adam's secrecy.

Notes: Reappearance of William Grey Espy as Mitch Blake.

JULY 31, 1986 (EP. #5618)
In the Cory stables with Mac, Rachel fretted over her sculpture and admitted that she feels like she is in a rut while Felicia worried about the potential consequences of the statements she made on her talk show about Cass, Kathleen, and Cecile. Adam showed M.J. a tape of Felicia's show. Michael forbade Donna from going to Switzerland to regain the Love fortune and asked Donna to wait for him to reveal his business with Adam. Larry questioned Gloria, who insisted that she had revealing everything she knew. Catlin bitterly told Brittany that he would not ruin her storybook lifestyle with Peter, then calmly tried to question Brittany on the reasons that she remained with Peter, and proclaimed that he would not lose another son. Brittany told Bridget that she felt suffocated. M.J. disapproved of Adam's idea to play word Association games with Gloria to jog her memory. Rachel sensed that she was being watched in the Cory stables. Michael told Donna that the person who absconded with the Love fortune is dangerous and vindictive, which frightened Donna out of her wits. Michael recognized a man who had left Paraguay in a photograph that Catlin had shown to him. LaRusso chased Timmy and his friends away from Fun & Frolic Land. Timmy convinced his friends to go to the police. Michael and Adam vowed that "the Vulture" would not escape from them. Gloria agreed to be hypnotized as Adam requested under the condition that the session be recorded for legal purposes. Mac suggested a cruise to Rachel, who lamented that she missed the children while they were at camp. Brittany was undaunted when Donna caught her rummaging through Peter's briefcase. Donna read one of Felicia's novels while waiting for Michael to return. M.J. directed Timmy to the area of the police precinct for items that are lost and found. In the Cory stables, Mitch emerged from hiding and suggested to Rachel that she scrap her sculpture.

AUGUST 1, 1986 (EP. #5619)
Mitch rejected Rachel's order to stay away from her. When Mitch requested to see Matthew, Rachel begged him not to disrupt Matthew's life. A frustrated Donna hung up the phone on Michael. Peter struck Brittany during an argument. LaRusso was unmoved when Cecile insisted that he would lose leverage over her by killing Cass and Kathleen. Donna dismissed Brittany's claim that Peter had bruised her by assuming that Brittany had provoked him. Brittany opined to Donna that she would never recover from the loss of a baby. Felicia suggested giving Rachel new challenges as she discussed Rachel's rut with Zane and Mac. Zane learned that the meals had been effective in getting Fingers to cooperate with him. Cass asked LaRusso to give him a blunt object so that Cass could feign overpowering him and Cjaza and lull Cecile into a false sense of security. Gloria initially balked during the hypnosis session with Adam. Adam informed Michael that "The Vulture" had flown from Houston to Chicago and talked Michael out of flying to Chicago to apprehend "The Vulture." Donna approved of Peter's plan to get Brittany to learn to love him. Brittany advised Donna to hold on to Michael, who tried unsuccessfully to contact Donna. Timmy tried unsuccessfully to show M.J. the S.O.S. notes that Cass had written and left on the grounds of Fun & Frolic Land. Rachel answered Mitch's questions about Mac, Amanda, Matthew, and her life. Mitch suspected that Rachel was bored despite her claims to the contrary. Peter promised Brittany that he would not hit her for searching his briefcase. Zane and Felicia left for the "Happy-go-lucky" diner. Cass secretly confided to Kathleen that he had planned to knock out LaRusso and Cjaza with a baseball bat and leave Cecile behind. M.J. read references to Fun & Frolic Land from Timmy's notes as Gloria recalled the amusement park. Kathleen summoned Cjaza and LaRusso while Cass waited in hiding.

AUGUST 4, 1986 (EP. #5620)
Rachel denied Mitch's claim to Mac that he and Rachel were reminiscing about the past. Donna admitted to being jealous because of Michael spending time with Adam. Adam and M.J. thanked Gloria and the children for their help and headed for Fun & Frolic Land. Cass knocked Cjaza unconscious, forced LaRusso to tie him up, and declared that he had double-crossed them. Cecile retaliated by grabbing the gun from Kathleen's clutches when Cass revealed that he planned to leave Cecile behind. Adam informed Michael that "The Vulture" had registered under the surname LaSalle in a Chicago hotel and was accompanied by Johann Ludwig, whose whereabouts were unknown to the authorities. Mac and Rachel told Mitch that Matthew knew that Mac was not his biological father, that Matthew was unaware that Mitch had been in prison, and that Mac hoped to adopt Matthew with Mitch's permission. Adam and Michael hoped to reach Cecile before Ludwig and booked a room next to "The Vulture's" hotel suite. Kathleen snatched the gun from Cecile, then Cass tied Cecile's wrists together, and Kathleen grabbed Cecile's jacket which had the diamond certificates in the lining. Cecile did not share LaRusso's amusement as Cass and Kathleen departed. Donna protested when Michael made arrangements for Vicky to stay in a Chicago hotel. Cass and Kathleen decided to turn Cecile over to the police. Rachel tried to talk Mac out of having dinner with Peter and Brittany. Michael hired Jake and Blade to watch Donna and Marley at a beach cottage. Zane went to the "Happy-go-lucky" diner again. Felicia had a man tail Zane, spotted Cass, and tried to follow Cass in her car. Blade told Jake that he had been in prison for stabbing his sister's abusive boyfriend. Samantha kissed Jake. Adam immediately disliked LaRusso and Cjaza, who had no idea of Cass and Kathleen's whereabouts. Cass's car stalled after he pulled off the main highway.

AUGUST 5, 1986 (EP. #5621)
Marley felt awkward around Jake while Donna griped to Blade about the lack of air conditioning, a working television set, and inability to make calls from the beach cottage. Michael began surveillance on "The Vulture" from his hotel room. Zane learned that Felicia was following Cass in her car. Felicia panicked due to losing track of Cass. Adam and M.J. reminded the S.W.A.T. team to be cautious since Cass, Kathleen, and Cecile are not criminals. An amused LaRusso and Cjaza boasted to Adam and M.J. that Cass's car was low on gas. Cass, Kathleen, and Cecile pushed the car off the road and hid it under trees. Zane and Fingers heard a news broadcast about the search for Cass, Kathleen, and Cecile near Fun & Frolic Land. Cass ignored Cecile's protests over using a diamond from the lining of the jacket to pay for gas at the "Happy-go-lucky" diner, but allowed Cecile to hold a gun for protection. Marley accused Jake of playing games with her. "The Vulture" instructed Ludwig to apprehend Cecile unharmed, prompting Michael to warn Adam. Adam and M.J. launched a background check on Ludwig and learned that Zane and Felicia were in the area. Zane borrowed Fingers' truck without permission. Kathleen taunted a defiant Cecile for not having anyone who loved her. Kathleen was miffed when a frightened Cecile accidentally shot a cow she mistook as a bear. Fingers told Ludwig that Cass had used a diamond as payment for five gallons of gas. Nancy and Dee introduced Marley to Greg, Scott, and Samantha, who made Marley jealous by flirting with Jake in front of her. Donna was shocked when Blade talked about his background and criminal past. Michael was evasive with Donna about his current activities. Jake accompanied Marley and her friends to a drive-in movie while Blade tended to Donna. Felicia left to find Zane. Cass unwittingly requested a ride from Ludwig, who had a gun lying on the passenger seat of his car.

Notes: Last appearance of Walt Willey as Jim LaRusso and Ving Rhames as Cjaza Carnek.

AUGUST 6, 1986 (EP. #5622)
Brittany tried to resist Peter's sexual advances. Despite Donna's complaints about being stuck with Blade, Michael refused to give Donna a phone number in which to contact him. M.J. told Adam that Felicia had spotted Cass on Route 42. Felicia learned that Zane had stolen a truck. Zane was caught by the police. Cass gave Kathleen and Cecile the aliases Katie and Lucille and convinced a reluctant Ludwig to give them a ride. Donna spilled a drink onto Blade's clothes to distract him long enough to obtain Michael's phone number by rummaging through the pockets of his jeans. Donna feared the worst upon learning from the hotel clerk that Michael was not taking calls. Nancy felt guilty that Marley had been forced to sit in a car with Jake and Samantha. Marley tried to convince a skeptical Nancy that spending time with Jake and Samantha would help her to conquer any silly notions that she and Jake would reconcile. Felicia promised to return the truck that Zane had stolen and was given a clue about Cass's possible location. M.J. worried about Zane and Felicia's welfare as Adam searched for them. Ludwig insisted on getting Cass, Kathleen, and Cecile to a safe area and to help Cecile with her jacket. An enraged Peter raped Brittany. Jake fumed after overhearing Marley opine to Nancy that Jake did not love her and that Michael had paid him to protect her. Michael learned that Ludwig was using an alias. Cecile became unhinged while fighting for the "trump card" in response to Ludwig pulling a gun on Cecile, Cass, and Cecile. Blade followed Donna, who headed for the hotel to meet Michael. Ludwig advised Cecile that she had a meeting with LaSalle and that Cass and Kathleen had to die. Brittany sulked as Peter prepared to go out to dinner with Mac and Rachel. Michael posted guards to keep Donna out of the hotel. Adam and M.J. found Zane's abandoned truck. Ludwig sprung into action to deal with Cass, Kathleen, and Cecile.

AUGUST 7, 1986 (EP. #5623)
Michael instructed Blade to tend to Donna, who was prohibited from leaving the hotel room. Brittany was upset to learn from Peter that the baby was not at home. Felicia threw rocks to distract Ludwig while Adam and M.J. lurked in the area. Ludwig advised Cass, Kathleen, and Cecile that he would spare their lives if they revealed information about the "trump card." Ludwig was not pleased by Cass's offer to give the diamond certificates to him. Michael tried to convince Donna that he was not staying in a hotel room with another woman. Brittany assumed a brave front for Mac and Rachel's benefit at Mary's Place. Zane reached Felicia and decided to sneak up on Ludwig, who took Kathleen and Cecile hostage. Ludwig threatened to kill Kathleen when Adam announced that he was surrounded by the authorities. Donna was furious when Michael dodged answering her questions about being at the hotel and keeping her locked in his room. Peter threatened to send the baby on an extended vacation unless Brittany improved her performance in public. Mac and Rachel were stunned when Peter claimed that he and Brittany intended to have another child. Zane and Ludwig were shot during the commotion between Ludwig and the police, who called an ambulance for Zane and arrested Cecile. Adam told Michael that "The Vulture" could be charged as an accessory to Zane's shooting, prompting Michael to hustle Donna out of the hotel. M.J. held Cecile responsible for Zane's condition. M.J. told Vince that everyone was safe except for Zane. Rachel denied Peter's assumption that Brittany had caused her sour mood. Mac and Rachel learned about Zane's shooting from Vince. Zane professed his unconditional love to Felicia. Brittany tried to extract the baby's whereabouts from Peter. Catlin told Brittany that he wished to be a father to the baby but wanted nothing to do with her. Michael lost track of "The Vulture." Felicia prayed for Zane's recovery.

AUGUST 8, 1986 (EP. #5624)
Larry refused to release the names of the shooting victims to the press. Mac, Rachel, and Cass comforted Felicia, who blamed herself for Zane's condition. Michael ignored Adam's advice against leaving the hotel room to track down LaSalle. Adam confessed to M.J. that he and Michael had been pursuing LaSalle ever since he had arrived in Bay City, but refused to reveal LaSalle's true identity. Donna was puzzled by Jake's concern towards the shooting victims. The doctors informed Felicia that Zane was in critical condition and needed an operation. Marley valiantly defended Michael and Jake against Donna's recriminations against them. Cecile dodged giving a statement to Larry without a lawyer being present. Rachel told Kathleen and Wallingford that Annie was contacted about Zane. Vince was relieved to see Cass and Kathleen alive and well. Ludwig is unconscious at another hospital. Michael and Adam stationed police officers around the hotel as LaSalle returned to his room. Zane went into cardiac arrest. Donna hypothesized to Marley that Michael was expecting a person that he did not want Donna to see. LaSalle disavowed knowledge of Hermann Gunter, Sally, and Ludwig in response to Michael and Adam's interrogation. LaSalle and Michael recognized each other as Reginald Love and Michael Garrison respectively. Ravi offered to make Cecile a figurehead Queen of Tanquir that would re-establish her diplomatic immunity, which Cass and Larry knew was a ploy. Jake laid into Marley for allowing Donna to sneak out of the beach cottage and go to the hotel. Marley resented Jake's claims that his presence was affecting her and that she was not self-reliant. Reginald emphasized to Michael and Adam that they could not prove his connection to Ludwig. As Michael and Donna escorted Reginald to the police station for further questioning, Donna was shocked to be greeted by her supposedly deceased father.

Notes: First appearance of John Considine as Reginald Love.
