FAMILY
Parents
Up until 1992, Ryan believed that Spencer Harrison was his father.
Then, Spencer revealed that he was not Ryan's biological father.
Ryan was never close to Spencer and this pushed them apart even
more. Ryan began to call him by his first name, but Spencer still
maintained strong paternal feelings for Ryan.
In 1992, Ryan discovered that Carl Hutchins was his biological father. Ryan was horrified at the discovery because he hated Carl and Carl hated him. It turned out that Carl had had an affair with Ryan's mother, Justine, many years ago, which produced Ryan. When Carl reformed in 1994, Ryan accepted him as his father, and even called him "Dad." Carl was devastated when Ryan was killed in October 1995, and it was all he can do not to succumb to his dark side and seek revenge against Ryan's killer.
Ryan believed that his mother, Justine, died when he was still a baby. In reality she had gone into seclusion. By the time she chose to re-enter her son's life, Ryan no longer cared. In fact, now that she was a certified psychotic who posed a significant threat to those around her, Ryan was hellbent on arresting her and bringing her to justice for her crimes. Justine was quick to dismiss Ryan from her plans and focused her attentions on Grant. Ryan was fatally shot at the same moment he was arresting Justine. There had been no understanding and no forgiveness between mother and son.
Siblings
Grant Harrison. Grant was Ryan's half-brother. The two had never
been close, and their indifference toward each other grew into
outright animosity ever since the two began their battle for Vicky's
affections. Neither trusted the other and neither gave the other half a
chance to prove otherwise.
In 1995, Grant was forced to kill Ryan in order to protect his son from his crazed mother, Justine. He was horribly guilt-ridden but chose not to admit his crime. Eventually Ryan's loved ones found out the truth and exacted their own revenge.
Perry Hutchins. Ryan never got to meet his older half-brother, who was killed in 1985.
Cory and Elizabeth Hutchins, were born in 1997.
Other Relatives
Andrew Hutchins (RIP), paternal
grandfather. Anna Callahan, aunt. Kirkland Harrison, half-nephew.
Fiona Merriman, cousin.
LOVERS
Vicky Hudson
Brett Gardner
Ryan began dating Brett when his ex-fiance, Vicky Hudson, married
Grant Harrison in 1993. Their affair got off to a rocky start because
Brett felt that Ryan was using her to get over his feelings for Vicky.
But Ryan was able to convince her that he had genuine feelings for
her and they enjoyed a relationship for several months.
Bit by bit, however, Vicky began insinuating herself in Ryan's life, and Brett was forced to realize that Ryan would never be over her. She broke off with him and advised him to pursue his true love Vicky, which he did. Brett and Ryan remained friends.
DATES
Amanda Cory
In 1990, Ryan went on several dates with Amanda. Neither was
really interested in the other. Ryan was merely on the outs with
Vicky Hudson, and Amanda was hurting from her recent divorce
from Sam Fowler.
Lorna Devon
Lorna was a friend to Ryan when Vicky ran off with Kirkland in 1994 and provided him with a
soft shoulder to cry on. They shared a kiss before Vicky decided to
return to town.
FLIRTATIONS Caroline Stafford
Frankie Frame
In 1991 Caroline admired Ryan's bank account, and his backside, but
never got to lock lips with him.
Jenna Norris
In 1992 Jenna became very admiring of Ryan, much to Vicky's displeasure, but the
whole thing dissipated very quickly.
MEDICAL HISTORY
In 1991 Ryan was shot when one
of Carl's henchman mistook him
for Cass Winthrop.
In October 1995 Ryan died from a gunshot wound inflicted by his brother Grant Harrison. His corneas were removed and donated to Bobby Reno.
From 1996-1997, Ryan's spirit returned to roam the earth. In February, his soul was seemingly transferred into the body of Carl and Rachel's baby.
LEGAL HISTORY
Ryan was arrested for murdering Rick Madison (RIP) in 1992. He
was sure Carl was the real guilty party and pursued him relentlessly,
but Carl had been innocent.
In 1995 Ryan faked evidence to make himself appear guilty in the shooting of his brother. He was trying to take the heat off of Vicky, but when she told him she hadn't done it, he pled not guilty during his arraignment.
CURRENT AND FORMER OCCUPATIONS
Ryan began working for the Bay City Police Department in the
summer of 1990.
He quit the police force in late 1991, but returned to duty in the summer of 1993. During his time off, he formed a private-detective agency with Frankie Frame. In 1995, Ryan was promoted to captain.
Ryan became owner of Bayview apartments and the Daily Grind.
